Nonviolent direct action, solidarity and struggle Ramzi Kysia, The Electronic Intifada, 17 August 2009 electronicintifada.net/v2/article10712.shtml"You who stand in the doorway, come in ...
The siege is a waiting period / Waiting on the tilted ladder in the middle of the storm ...
It is up to the soul to come down from its mount / And on its silken feet walk / By my side, hand in hand, like two longtime friends ...
May we walk this road together" (from "Under Siege," by Mahmoud Darwish) A year ago, 44 ordinary people from 17 different countries sailed to Gaza in two small wooden boats. We did what our governments would not do -- we broke through the Israeli siege. During the last year the Free Gaza Movement has organized seven more voyages, successfully arriving to Gaza on five separate occasions. Regardless of Israeli threats and intimidation, Free Gaza volunteers will continue sailing unarmed boats to Gaza. Ours remain the only international ships to reach the Gaza Strip in more than 42 years. By directly challenging the Israeli military with our small boats, we have concretely demonstrated that this siege has nothing whatsoever to do with security and is simply an illegal act of collective punishment. But the siege of Gaza cannot be separated from the crisis of checkpoints and home demolitions in Jerusalem and the rest of the West Bank, nor from the oppression of Palestinian citizens of Israel, nor from the harsh and unjust conditions of the millions languishing in refugee camps across the Middle East, nor from the plight of the more than 11,000 political prisoners held by Israel, nor from the calamity of extra-judicial killings of Palestinians by Israeli forces, particularly the killings of Palestinian children, nor from Israel's ongoing theft of Palestinian natural resources, nor from the right of return for all Palestinians in the Diaspora. Gaza is but one bitter element of the struggle for justice for all of Palestine. Contrary to its presentation in the mainstream media, this conflict is neither a righteous war against terrorism, nor a long-standing religious or ethnic dispute. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the struggle of two irreconcilable and unequal causes: the struggle of an oppressed people for freedom, justice and self-determination against their oppressors' struggle to maintain their domination. The purpose of nonviolent direct action and civil resistance is to take risks and put our selves in the way of injustice. We take these risks well aware of what the possible consequences may be. We do so because the consequences of doing nothing are so much worse. Any time we allow ourselves to be bullied, every time we pass by an evil and ignore it, we lower our standards and allow our world to be made that much harsher and unjust for us all. Other international solidarity and action campaigns preceded ours, such as the European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza, and more have begun in recent months, such as Viva Palestina, the International Movement to Open Rafah Border, Code Pink's delegations to Gaza, and the Gaza Freedom March. These campaigns are all important. Working together, we have been able to complement and multiply our efforts, drawing the world's attention to the suffering caused by Israel's illegal blockade. We have been able to bring in limited amounts of needed aid, and bring out of Gaza a handful of Palestinian students, medical patients and others. These are worthwhile labors, but they are not enough. As the great Indian resistance leader Mahatma Gandhi stated on 11 September 1924: "[The people] are as yet untouched by [our] politics ... Their politics are confined to bread and salt ... We must share their sorrows ... Then and not till then shall we truly represent [them] ..." The truth is that all our work combined has yet to significantly impact the daily lives of the Palestinian people. As solidarity campaigners, it's our job to take our direction from comrades already struggling inside occupied Palestine. But as internationals we should also remind ourselves that our primary work lies in our own communities. In the end, our struggle is not about charity; the Palestinian people need justice and political action, not charity. Viva Palestina's journey through North Africa, on their first mission from Britain to Gaza, helped mobilize countless individuals. Their planned journey through Europe this December will mobilize countless more. Volunteers working and traveling with Viva Palestina have begun dozens of twinning projects between their communities in the West and communities inside Palestine. The fruits of these efforts are unknowable. However, there are tremendous possibilities for not only providing concrete assistance to those in need, but also for politicizing and mobilizing individuals across the world to get involved in the struggle for justice in Palestine. Similarly, the Free Gaza Movement is working to mobilize individuals through the Right to Read campaign, and through direct lobbying of governments and the international community to actually enforce international law in regards to Palestine. We are reaching out to existing social movements and labor unions in the West, complementing existing efforts to establish and broaden boycott, divestment and sanctions campaigns against apartheid Israel. The continuing failure of the international community to enforce its own laws and protect the Palestinian people demands that we as private citizens directly intervene to take action commensurate with the crisis. What is needed in our world today is not simply protest against the violence of occupation and oppression. What we need is a greater resolve -- a new militancy rooted in the profound respect for human life, and sustained by profound disrespect for any government or group that terrorizes our sisters and brothers around the world. More than at any time in recent memory, ordinary people around the world seem to be answering this call. ----- Ramzi Kysia is an Arab-American essayist and an organizer with the Free Gaza Movement. Dear Jen,
I must confess I am as lost as you are in this matter. I have scoured my files for months looking for past references that would clarify your very inquiry only to find nothing. Either I came to the party too late, I am not smart enough t figure this out or the explanations may be found on one of the EDO DVDs, but I don't know which one(s).
I simply have nothing that is responsive to this at all. It is very frustrating for me.

Thanks, 41, for sharing your frustration!! Maybe it's in the archives of the material that was dictated by the J-Rod in shadow language, there must be a ton of information there! ................. Over 20,000 supporters at Ezra Nawi's hearingDate: August 17, 2009 3:42:53 PM EDT Reply-To: feedback@jewishvoiceforpeace.org
Ezra Nawi's sentencing hearing took place yesterday (Sunday), and Jewish Voice for Peace was there with over 20,000 of your signatures. The judge will render her sentence on September 21st, 2009.
At the hearing, Emily Schaeffer testified on behalf of JVP, and on behalf of all the people who had signed letters in support of Ezra. She explained that over 20,000 people from around the world knew Ezra, supported him, and demanded that he not be jailed for his courageous nonviolent defense of Palestinian Bedouins in the South Hebron region-under constant attack by settlers, the Israeli army and police. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysIaQUJWBdkWhen crossed-examined, she was asked if "tikkun olam" described the events about which the hearing was taking place. She answered: "Absolutely." The prosecutor objected to the filing of the signatures. Thanks to Emily's testimony on behalf of JVP, and thanks to the insistence of Ezra's attorney, Leah Tzemel, the long list of names attesting to Ezra's support were accepted by the judge. In fact, the Jerusalem Post reported on this case in an article with the following title: 20,000 sign petition asking Jerusalem court not to put peace activist Ezra Nawi in jail To date, the video detailing the events leading to his arrest has been watched over 37,000 times. Ezra Nawi's sole crime was trying to stop a military bulldozer from destroying the homes of Palestinian Bedouins in the South Hebron region. Ironically, Judge Ziskind verdict punishes Nawi for "disturbing the peace:" The peace of the bulldozer and the home demolitions. After the soldiers demolished the home, a handcuffed Ezra is seen telling the laughing soldiers: "Yes, I was also a soldier, but I didn't demolish houses. There's a big difference. The only thing that will be left here is hatred. Only hatred will be left here. Very funny, soldier? That the kids will be sleeping outside, is that funny?" No wonder The Nation called him "Israel's Man of Conscience." Haaretz compared his nonviolent resistance to that of the Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. Ezra's case is part of a larger pattern of harassment targeting nonviolent resistance against the Israeli occupation. Palestinian nonviolent activists fare considerably worse than him. We recall the recent arrests of Palestinian nonviolent activists in the town of Bil'in. Eighteen Palestinian activists remain in military prison today, together with the two leaders of the the Bil'in Popular Committee Against the Wall and Settlements: Mohammed al-Khatib and Adib Abu Rahma. They sit in military jails without bail-or are offered bail only under condition that they cease their nonviolent demonstrations. Others, such as Bassem Ahmed Ibrahim Abu Rahma, have paid for their nonviolent protests with their lives. Last April, he was killed in Bilin by a high velocity tear gas fired directly at him at close distance. Sydney Levy Jewish Voice for Peace................

Hey, Sally, Jen.
The thing I am wondering about the mirroring that DR. Dan has used is how he got past the notion that the human mind looks for patterns in almost any chaos the eye sees and settled on this approach to confirm the presence of ET artifacts in this manner. I am sure Dr. Stan had some input on this. If not, he surely must have some professional opinions about its use in this context.
USing that mirror method, simple placement along any suitable axis of an image can produce stunning results. What I wonder is how Dr. Dan differentiates between those sort of random patterns that this method produces, and true images intended by its authors to convey information.

What if...
I believe that the answers to all of the questions of Life surround us.
What if the confusion isn't so much the answers, but the questions we ask?
What if the answers received aren't necessarily incorrect, but we've asked the wrong question?
What if the question we asked isn't necessarily incorrect, but we've asked the wrong person?
Now, I don't mean "wrong" in the sense of "bad' or "not good", etc. I mean it in the sense of not necessarily the correct book of knowledge or the person who can help to decipher the answers we've found.
I remember what it was like trying to teach myself the MS Excel program using the "Help" files. These files were filled with answers - BUT - I had to learn what questions to ask AND how to ask them.
Now I was bound and determined to master this silly computer software program but I learned it was easier to ask someone with the experience in the program (along with the patience to teach someone with a zillion questions... ;D) just what was the Excel topic that handled, say "If I wanted the data set to only calculate the sum for those items greater than zero from the 1st quarter of 2009". Yeah, you can use the function "Sum If" or "Conditional Sum" or build an entire query using a combination of functions. I didn't know that - logical or not - whodathunkit..."Sum If" or "Conditional What???" Rather than getting bogged down in the massive amount of information available in the "Help" files, I explained what I was attempting to do and the person listening gave me some tips and showed me how to access the answers. It was just that simple.
A chemist asks questions of the elements s/he's dealing with through experimentation. But sometimes this same scientist stumbles upon an answer that may require the input of a physicist or a mathematician to fully understand what s/he's found. Instead of fumbling around with additional experiments, they stop and direct another question to someone who has that particular data set at their fingertips along with the ability to interpret it.
Even Nature has answers to our questions. Did you know that while there are elements toxic to the biological bodies we inhabit, there are elements nearby that mitigate, remove or render these toxins harmless to ourselves? Kind of like the "Yin/Yang of Science" in general. If there is a deposit of uranium buried deep beneath the crust of the Earth, how or what keeps this mineral (in large quantities) from totally polluting the surrounding areas with radiation? Certain areas of scientific research are finding that some microbes actually feed upon toxic nuclear waste and render it non-toxic. Perhaps it would have been faster to ask the microbiologists working on these topics years ago if it synced with anything they were seeing, but at least someone is asking now. Either that or someone is releasing the information of their discovery. No matter what - it's still there for us to find - an answer to a question.
Peace...
What is the answer to "World Peace"? Is it the absence of war? Not totally - if that was the case we could say we have had periods of "World Peace". But that wouldn't be correct. We may not have had armed conflicts, but we have had and tolerated the existence of nations ruled by tyrants inflicting torture, death and harm on those residing within their nation states.
So, maybe the question isn't about how do we implement "World Peace". Maybe we need to look a little closer to home and ask "What do I require to be at peace?" For me, it isn't having a multi-million dollar bank account. That could be gone in the amount of time it takes to press a "Delete" key at the bank or at some investment firm on Wall Street. Not to mention that money brings its own baggage along with it - as in worries. It's a false sense of peace at best.
So, I keep asking this question of myself and there are days that I hit upon a momentary answer and realize that's a part of it, so I continue digging.
Thanks for your patience.
Peace and Joy Always with Love
Sally Anne
