<http://uruknet. info/?p=m76431& hd=&size= 1&l=e>
Uruknet March 31, 2011 - The Israeli government has warned the U.N.
Security Council and the EU that it will resort to unilateral
countermeasures if the international community recognises Palestine as
an independent state at the U.N. General Assembly session next
September... . Last week Israel informed 15 members of the United Nations
Security Council, and major EU (European Union) countries,.. .
*Obama's North African War Face*
<http://uruknet. info/?p=m76430& hd=&size= 1&l=e>
Uruknet March 31, 2011 - Whatever happens to Moammar Gaddafi, an
independent Libya is not on the U.S. agenda. "Obama hopes to 'stabilize'
Libya under indirect U.S. dominion through a kind of protectorate
involving various 'international' entities, on the Haitian model." The
president's doctrine of "humanitarian" warfare -- like his rhetoric --
is merely a sweetened derivative of George Bush's...

Uruknet March 31, 2011 - You know you've made it, Joe Iosbaker said with
a tight smile, when Glenn Beck, the right-wing Fox News host, dedicates
a good 10 minutes of his show to you. But that is all Mr Iosbaker, an
administrator at the University of Illinois in Chicago, had to smile
about. A veteran union rights activist and...

blowing...* <http://uruknet. info/?p=m76428& hd=&size= 1&l=e>
Uruknet March 31, 2011 - One thing is correct: legitimacy matters, and
the absurd adventurism of the opposition elements in Libya shows that
they knew from the outset that they could not gain legitimacy. In lieu
of a social program, they called for a bombing program. The West
surveyed the scene until it decided that the opposition -- helmed by...

<http://uruknet. info/?p=m76427& hd=&size= 1&l=e>
Uruknet March 31, 2011 - Americans are warlike -- as long as they think
they can be victorious. These nominal Democrats and Republicans "differ
only on who they want to see doing the dominating." Today, a Black
Democrat is the head killer in charge, allowing the likes of Ed Schultz,
Bill Maher and Juan Cole to endorse the criminal assault...
*Apres Moi ... Aw, C'mon, Who Gives a Crap?*
<http://uruknet. info/?p=m76426& hd=&size= 1&l=e>
Uruknet March 31, 2011 - Thank God the moronic, lying and/or hugely
ignorant "humanitarians" are no longer embarrassed by the militant
anti-intellectualis m of the criminal Bush administration. Today they can
enthusiastically embrace the militant anti-intellectualis m of criminals
with whom they feel entirely comfortable. Progress of this kind causes
me to weep uncontrollably. The weeping part is true. However, I am...

*War Criminal Obama Killing Civilians in 6 Counties Accuses Gadhafi of
Same* <http://uruknet. info/?p=m76423& hd=&size= 1&l=e>
Uruknet March 31, 2011 - The President, in his speech of March 28,
intended to explain his ordering air strikes on Libyan government
forces, made so many seemingly unnecessary untruthful statements?
Surprising was his falsely quoting Gadhafi. If, as the president and
media have charged, Gadhafi has been indeed targeting civilians and not
heavily armed insurgents, why should Obama have...

Uruknet March 31, 2011 - A dear friend of mine from Gaza told me that he
hadn't slept for days. "I am so worried about Egypt, I have only been
feeding on cigarettes and coffee." My friend and I talked for hours that
day in early February. We talked about Tahrir Square, about the courage
of ordinary Egyptians and about...

row last year between Iran and the US has been jailed in Tehran and
could face the death penalty. Shahram Amiri, who returned to Iran in
July after apparently defecting to the US, is under investigation for
divulging secrets about Iran's clandestine uranium-enrichment program,

Uruknet March 31, 2011 - ..."Shutting down Camp Honor will mean little
if detainees are shuffled to other facilities to face torture again,"
said Joe Stork, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch.
"There needs to be a genuine, independent investigation and criminal
prosecution of everyone, regardless of rank, responsible for the
horrific abuses there." The Justice Ministry announced...

Uruknet March 31, 2011 - Brought together by a common cause and a shared
experience, French and Qatari fighter crews are flying joint missions
out of Greece to enforce the UN-mandated no-fly zone over Libya. A
section of the Greek base of Souda on the island of Crete has now become
home for the two nations' pilots and some 300...

<http://uruknet. info/?p=m76417& hd=&size= 1&l=e>
Uruknet March 31, 2011 - The Palestinian population living within Israel
is estimated to be 1.5 million citizens, approximately 20 per cent of
the Israeli population. Of this number, about 370,000 are 'internally
displaced'; they live in Israel but are not allowed to return to their
homes or villages from which they were displaced during the 1948 Nakba

been enough. There's obviously a ways to go here, but the trajectory is

southern occupied West Bank village of Beit Ommar for an indefinite
amount of time as soldiers continue to arrest young Palestinian
residents and hold them in Israeli detention centers. In a move akin to
the four-year-long economic blockade against the occupied Gaza Strip,
Israeli soldiers have closed...

Uruknet March 31, 2011 - ...It was when Assad came to the now-obligatory
section of his speech where embattled presidents blame foreign
conspiracies for the demonstrations that I started to feel confused.

*IDF extends arrest of Palestinian protest organizer*
<http://972mag. com/palestinian- protest-organize r-to-remain- under-arrest/>
Joseph Dana, +972 Magazine 4/1/2011
Nabi Saleh Popular Committee leader Bassem Tamimi's arrest was
extended by an Israeli military judge after the prosecution filed a
grievous indictment. The hearing took place in front of a courtroom
packed with Tamimi's family, supporters, European diplomats and Israeli
intellectuals.
Bassem Tamimi, 44, a protest organizer from Nabi Saleh and the
coordinator of the village's popular committee, was indicted at the Ofer
military Court today. Tamimi is charged with incitement, organizing
illegal marches, solicitation to throw stones, disobeying the duty to
report to questioning, and a scandalous obstruction of justice charge,
for allegedly giving youth advice on how to act under interrogation by
the police in the event that they are arrested.
Seven days after his arrest, today was the first time Tamimi was
brought in front of a judge. In attendance at the hearing were diplomats
from Spain, France and the EU, Tamimi's wife, many of his supporters and
notable Israeli intellectuals, among them acclaimed Israeli novelist,
Yoram Kanyuk.
Tamimi's arrest was extended by 11 days to allow his lawyer, Adv.
Labib Habib to study the case file and argue against the extension of
the arrest until the end of legal procedures. His next hearing will take
place on April 10th, 2011.
Tamimi is one of the prominent figures of the Palestinian popular
struggle in the West Bank and considered by many as the engine behind
Nabi Saleh's grassroots mobilization against the occupation and for the
protection of the village's lands from settler take over.more..

*Boycott: No longer taboo in progressive pro-Israel circles*
<http://972mag. com/boycott- no-longer- taboo-in- progressive- pro-israel- circles/>
Dov Waxman & Mairav Zonszein, Dissent Magazine, +972 Magazine 4/1/2011
/Though many American Jews oppose the BDS movement, more and more of
them are willing to explore the idea of a targeted boycott against the
occupation/
TO BOYCOTT or not to boycott? That is the question that growing
numbers of American Jews on the left wing of the pro-Israel community
have reluctantly and uneasily begun to ask themselves in recent months.
After initially categorically rejecting the movement to boycott, divest
from, and sanction Israel (or BDS, as it has become known)---a movement
launched in 2005 by a coalition of Palestinian civil society groups
that's now a global campaign---progress ive pro-Israel groups and
individuals are now starting to reconsider and revise their position.
They are not---at least not yet---embracing BDS, but they are for the
first time giving it serious consideration and debating it merits.
The clearest sign yet of this new willingness to discuss what was
previously off-limits occurred during a recent conference organized by J
Street, the self-described "pro-Israel, pro-peace" lobby group. Holding
its second annual conference in the cavernous Washington Convention
Center (also the site of the yearly conference of AIPAC, J Street's much
larger and richer rival), J Street included a panel session entitled
"Who is Afraid of the BDS?" Among the speakers was Rebecca Vilkomerson,
the director of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), an organization that
advocates the boycott of companies that profit from the Israeli
occupation and has been labeled by the Anti-Defamation League as one of
the top ten anti-Israel groups in the United States. Her inclusion was
noteworthy in itself, but what made the panel even more remarkable was
the fact that it was conducted in a calm, reasonable manner, free of
diatribes and invectives. In other words, it was completely different
from the way in which discussions of BDS usually take place in the
American-Jewish community. Instead of assailing the legitimacy of BDS in
principle, the discussion focused on the efficacy of BDS---can it help
promote an end to the Israeli occupation and a two-state solution? The
large audience that packed the room (people were even queuing outside to
get in) listened calmly and intently and asked the panel earnest
questions. -- See also:Source

*Gaza Was Cairo, Egypt Was Palestine*
<http://www.counterp unch.org/ baroud04012011. html>
Ramzy Baroud, CounterPunch 4/1/2011
/Both Peoples Were One/
A dear friend of mine from Gaza told me that he hadn't slept for
days. "I am so worried about Egypt, I have only been feeding on
cigarettes and coffee." My friend and I talked for hours that day in
early February. We talked about Tahrir Square, about the courage of
ordinary Egyptians and about Hosni Mubarak's many attempts to co-opt the
people's revolution. We were so consumed by the turmoil in Egypt that
neither of us even mentioned Gaza.
The siege on Gaza -- and on the whole of Palestine - is a constant
factor that unites most Palestinians. However, the genuine solidarity
that the people of the Gaza Strip felt when Egyptians took to the
streets on January 25 surpassed even the political urgency around the
humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Ordinary Gazans danced the night away when
Mubarak was removed from power on February 18. Although lifting the
siege is a Palestinian priority, those who raised Egyptian flags, shed
tears and subsisted on coffee and cigarettes for nearly three weeks were
hardly making the connection between the siege and Mubarak. While
Mubarak was loathed to the core -- his decision to block the Rafah
border at a critical time victimized thousands - the bond that united
Egypt to Palestine runs much deeper than the sins of a senile dictator,
or even a terrible siege.
The story, in fact, starts well before 1948, the year of the
Palestinian Nakba. Egypt and Palestine have for long reflected the state
of the other: in defeat and triumph, in despair and hope. The valiant
youth of Egypt are now the harbingers of hope for their country, for
Palestine and for the entire region, although things haven't always been
so promising.
Al-Nakba represented heartbreak to the collective conscious of
Arabs, but Palestinians and Egyptians were affected the most.....more. .

<http://palestinechr onicle.com/ view_article_ details.php? id=16767>
Palestine Chronicle: 1 Apr 2011 - By Iqbal Jassat- Pretoria The final
outcome of a protracted yet determined effort by the University of
Johannesburg to sever links with Israel's Ben Gurion University has been
a resounding success for the Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment [BDS]
campaign. Congratulatory messages along with predictably excited media
releases welcomed South African academic's bold moves to distance
themselves and their institutions from ties with a regime widely
acknowledged as an apartheid state. This moves comes at a time when the
Israeli Knesset is likely to pass an obnoxious law to outlaw the boycott
of Jewish settlements. Be sure to understand this correctly: settlements
will remain 'legal' but the boycott of settlements will be 'illegal'!
This is the third of a series of new laws enacted by Israel to overcome
growing challenges to its obvious failure as a convoluted 'democracy'
built on Jewish exclusivity in pursuit of an unattainable Zionist dream.

protracted and largest of all refugee problems in the world today".
Three-quarters of the 11 million Palestinians are refugees. Their plight
is at the core of the 63-year struggle against Israel. All other issues,
political and humanitarian, arose as a consequence of Israel's denial of
